In July of '05, I went on a volunteer international eye mission to South India. Our mission was simple: To help eradicate blindness by performing free vision screenings and sight-restoring surgeries on the poor. The results: Over 1000 patients were treated for various eye diseases and well over 250 cataract surgeries were performed. This latter group was completely blind before the operation! As you can imagine, a very rewarding experience. Definitely one of the best decisions of my life. I plan on doing something similar in my native country, Afghanistan. Perhaps after the dust settles a bit... If I ever get tired of practicing medicine (very unlikely, at this point), I'd love to do men's fashion design/consulting...:) WORDS I LIVE BY: "The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision."
